This book was first published in 1986, from the partnership of both the authors. Spencer Johnson is also famous for his book WHO MOVED MY CHEESE? Which is also a great life-lesson book.

"The one minute manager" is a book having three key ideas which usually takes 1 minute or less to apply, but when applied gives very effective and positive results.

The most important thing for a manager is how effectively he/she can manage the resources and get the best out of them. Manage time, manage employees, manage resources, and etc.

Managing employees is not only putting the right person in the right place and making more and more profit from them but it includes motivating them for the job, taking care of their positive mood so they can work with their interest but not like under pressure just to complete targets. Keep in mind, if your employees will be in a good mood then your growth will also be in a good mood.

THREE KEY PRINCIPLES:

1. TAKE ONE MINUTE TO SELECT THREE OR SIX GOALS FOR YOUR EMPLOYEE.

People perform better when they are clear of their task and the goal. Better management is to decide the goals for your employee and instruct them properly. Assigning goals will take just 1 minute or less.
Keep the goals in a way that you can easily review them later to check the progress of your employee.

Think about it like this, you decided that you will start the exercise from the next morning. Now if you have not planned the timing, type of exercises, etc then the high chances are that you will not be able to do exercise the next day Because you were not clear of the task.

2. TAKE ONE MINUTE TO PRAISE THE ACHIEVEMENTS AND AFFIRM:

Praise, a thing that motivates any person to do more. In the book HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE, we get its idea clearly. After the task finished by the employee, review them, and take 30 seconds to praise their good parts and achievements, then take 30 seconds to affirm them.

e.g; Hey! Ankur you did a really good job. I believe in you. In the future also do your task in this way.

Your employee will feel motivated with this act because this will boost his self-worth and people loves to feel valuable.

So praise your employees for their good works regularly.

3. TAKE ONE MINUTE TO POINT OUT MISTAKES AND AFFIRM THEM:

It is not necessary to always praise when employees do something wrong point their mistakes. Now your employee knows that you have the habit of praising their work so they will take your points in a positive way and they will improve rather than feeling down.

Pointing mistakes is an art, HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE will tell you about this art.

Take 30 seconds to point out the mistakes, and the next 30 seconds to affirm them. Affirmation is necessary to again give them the right set of mind to work more effectively.

e.g; Hey! Ankur though your work is good there are a few mistakes in it, you have good potential and you are good at your work so you should check them and make them correct.

This way you can get the best results.

So these were the three principles from THE ONE MINUTE MANAGER, and each will take just one minute or less to apply but are very much effective in the management.

These principles are not only for managers in the companies you can apply them in every field where you deal with a situation like this.

This book is of around 100 pages but the ideas are worth applying so I would suggest you read this book. Everything you learn must give you the benefit at some point in the future. So keep reading and motivating yourself.
